Today I want to tell you how to reprogram your brain and stay on track to transform your life for the better. It involves using a technique called Mindfulness Meditation.
Lots of people, when they hear the word “meditation”, go screaming off into the woods! They think you have to be a Buddhist or sit uncomfortably on the floor to meditate properly.
Here’s how to reprogram your brain
OK let’s get theses two misconceptions out of the way. First of all, you don’t have to be a Buddhist to meditate. You can meditate regardless of what faith (or none) you follow. While some types of meditation do work best if you assume a particular position, that’s not true of the one I’m going to talk about today. In fact you can practice mindfulness meditation anywhere – even when you’re walking down the street!
Put simply, mindfulness meditation simply means shutting of that constant niggling voice that goes on in your head all the time (the one that says you can’t do whatever), being aware of what’s going on around you, and living in the here and now.
Do this for me now…
Put your phone down or look away from your computer screen. Breathe deeply, close your eyes and listen. I mean REALLY listen to what’s going on around you. Don’t think about anything, just let your mind relax for a while.
What did you hear? I’ll bet you heard lots of things you didn’t notice before.
Being more aware of what’s going on allows you to take more information on board – subtle things you may not have noticed before. Your subconscious mind takes all this on board, so when the thoughts DO come again, they’re likely to be much more positive than before.
